Malaysia was chosen to host the 9th World Urban Forum (WUF9), the world’s premier conference of urban development organised by United Nations Habitat (UN Habitat), which took place from 7 to 13 February 2018. The challenge for Urbanice – an agency under the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, which was entrusted with managing the event, was to ensure a critical mass of attendees to the event as well as to keep the public informed through digital media of the various on-goings at WUF9.
Urbanice commissioned The IBR Asia Group to manage the pre-event and event-side social media publicity for WUF9. One of the first things we did was to set up a dedicated landing page that enabled visitors to register their interest in attending. This enabled us to streamline the registration process and make it faster and easier for attendees. During the event, we conducted video interviews of speakers and attendees and posted regular updates to dedicated social media sites including Facebook and Twitter.
The IBR Asia Group’s involvement in the digital outreach initiative for WUF9 ensured that the event was a huge success. In five weeks, we helped increase the number of online registrations for WUF9 from 1,000 to 30,000, while our event coverage garnered around 7.8 million impressions on various social media platforms.
