About The Client

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI Selangor, is responsible for administering the assets and investments of the Selangor State Government, and to represent the State in economic and business activities that are beyond the state government’s jurisdictions. MBI Selangor’s role extends to promoting and supporting the State’s development efforts as well as carrying out social responsibility obligations for the public.


MBI Selangor was entrusted with overseeing and executing the Smart Selangor initiative that aims to transform Selangor into a Premier Smart State by the year 2025. MBI Selangor realised that it needed to receive the buy-in from various stakeholders comprising corporations, other Selangor and Federal Government agencies, and foreign investors to ensure the success of the initiative.

Why The IBR Asia Group

MBI Selangor approached The IBR Asia Group to conceptualise a 360-degree, multi-modal branding strategy for Smart Selangor owing to our expertise in handling diverse and complex subject matters and presenting them in an engaging manner across multiple platforms. Also factoring into their decision was our experience in connecting corporate and government entities together.

What We Did and how we did it

Created and produced a series of 7 forums, titled Selangor Synergies, with each focused on a theme related to the Smart Selangor Masterplan – namely Economic Opportunities, Emerging Technologies, Sustainability, Smart Living, Transport Connectivity, Digital Infrastructure and the Selangor Maritime Gateway.
Created and produced a full-day conference entitled Selangor! Regional Powerhouse which showcased a more macroscopic view of Smart Selangor and how it is driving Selangor to be a leader in Malaysia and the region.
Video highlights of the Selangor Synergies Forums and the Selangor! Regional Powerhouse Conference were edited and uploaded on our YouTube channel – IBRTV.
Selangor Synergies Forums were featured in 4 to 6 pages of various issues International Business Review, while the Selangor Regional Powerhouse forum was featured in 14 pages of International Business Review with the Chief Minister of Selangor, Datuk Amirudin Shari on the cover.
Produced the Smart Selangor Roadmap comprising of a review and analysis of the Smart Selangor master plan, encompassing five enablers – Smart Government, Smart Infrastructure, K-Economy, Smart People, and Smart Environment.

Through our publicity campaign, we helped increase exposure and awareness for the Smart Selangor initiatives such as Smart Selangor Parking, the Smart Selangor Bus and WiFi Smart Selangor free WiFi plan.

The forums resulted in networking opportunities and collaborations, strengthening MBI Selangor’s relationships with industries in Selangor.

The Smart Selangor Roadmap was launched during the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, Spain, thereby showcasing the vision and drive of MBI Selangor to a wider international audience.

Helped expand reach to top Government, Corporate and Diplomatic decision-makers in Malaysia through coverage in International Business Review

Enhanced appreciation for Germany by showcasing its achievements and goodwill

Provided a platform for networking as the International Business Review ASEAN Awards was attended by prominent figures from corporations, Ministries, government agencies and embassies in Malaysia
